Law Offices of Michele A. Peters, P.C.

ENTERTAINMENT LAW

For the past thirty years, attorney Michele Peters has been involved in entertainment law in one form or another.

Holding an undergraduate degree in music and masters work in theater, Ms. Peters' involvement with the arts has continually evolved. Having worked herself in the industry as a performing and recording artist in radio and television, and later as a manager and producer, she brings a perspective to the negotiation table beyond sheer legalities.
For many years during the 1980's, Ms. Peters managed, among others, the Grammy nominated RCA recording artists, The Hampton String Quartet and produced their last recordings on EMI-Toshiba.  International concerts and recordings were arranged as well as network international television and radio appearances.

Over the years, Ms. Peters has negotiated and drafted contracts for clients working in Los Angeles as well as New York, dealing with proprietary rights and contract negotiations in film, video, photography and theater.

Retention of rights reigns supreme and the protection of artists’ work is an important part of this firm’s work.

Important to the recording industry right now is the pending date of 2013 when many songwriters and artists will be able to regain full ownership of their rights to their works as musicians as provided by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998. However, two years prior to 2013 - in other words this year - a claim must be made that these rights will be exercised by the artists.
